Margaret Szeto

Staff Product Designer

Netflix

Margaret is from Hong Kong and Queens NY, and as much as she loves cities, she can’t survive winter weather anymore! She now lives in Mountain View California with her husband and little girl. Margaret is a product designer who has worked across payments and commerce industries, notably at places like eBay, Visa, and now Netflix. She loves applying design thinking to life problems, and mentoring others to creatively find the best version of themselves. Margaret enjoys video games, singing at church, playing tabletop RPGs, and interior designing something (or at least YouTubing it!). Since becoming a mom, she has been occupied with chasing her baby around and trying to teach her Cantonese!

I've spent the last 15+ years turning chaos into checklists — starting out as an engineer and working my way into technical program leadership for organizations like E*TRADE and Walmart. Somewhere along the way I discovered that my real superpower isn't Agile ceremonies or PMP frameworks (though I've got those too) — it's being the person who can sit in a room with executives, engineers, and stakeholders, and get everyone nodding at the same plan. I've led cross-functional teams across wildly different industries and cultures, and I still get a genuine kick out of watching a messy, ambiguous project turn into a clean, working system.

If you ran my personality through a filter, you'd get a Logistician: dependable, disciplined, and a little too fond of a well-organized spreadsheet. My top strengths — Harmony, Maximizer, Achiever, Relator, and Responsibility — basically mean I'll fight for consensus, push good work to be great, and show up when I say I will.

I mentor because someone once did the same for me — took my raw ambition and practical brain and helped me point them in a useful direction. I love watching people connect the dots between "I'm stuck" and "oh, that's actually simple." Continuous learning is my fuel, and helping someone else's lightbulb turn on is one of the best parts of my week.

Outside of the project plans and KPI dashboards, I'm just a family-first, integrity-over-convenience kind of person — the one who double-checks the itinerary, remembers everyone's request, and low-key tracks progress on everything. Structure is my love language, but I promise I'm fun at parties, too.
